Keeping Wedding Costs Down

Expenses being what they are, couples have to make decisions on how much they want to spend for all the things that they traditionally have on their wedding day. You might have your own beliefs on what’s important on that special day, but here are some things that you could probably do without, or at least minimize that would help your wedding day dollar go further. Sometimes you just can’t have everything you want when it comes to your wedding. 1. Eliminate centerpieces in the middle of each table at the reception. The reality is that most of the time centerpieces are actually in the way of people trying to talk to each other. You can save some money by totally eliminating this, or maybe putting some relatively inexpensive paper designed centerpiece there instead. 2. Reduce the number of bridesmaids and groomsmen. On the surface this doesn’t look like a big cost saving measure, but the truth is that during the rehearsal dinner the wedding couple usually gives gifts to every member of the wedding party. If each side has six people in the wedding party and the gifts average $20 apiece, you’re talking at least a couple hundred dollars. That doesn’t even mention the ring bearer and the flower girl. If all you had was the best man and the bridesmaid, you reduce your costs greatly. 3. Don’t buy new shoes to go with the wedding dress. Not to step on anyone’s toes, but almost every bride already has shoes that would be perfect in wearing with the wedding dress. There’s often a markup on wedding shoes which means they cost more than they normally would if you are buying them for any other occasion. But you can save anywhere from $200-$500 by going through your own collection and finding something you believe would be appropriate.

4. Don’t use a singer at the church during the wedding ceremony. If you were hoping to have a short ceremony anyway, eliminating the singer or any other music could save you $100 or more. If you really want music, maybe you could ask a friend of yours to sing a song as their wedding gift to you. 5. Eliminate the limousine. True, limousines add a bit of class to the wedding ceremony, but it’s not a need when everybody today has their own car. You may not be able to keep everyone together in one place, but if you all eat together you will all arrive at the reception hall at the same time anyway. If you still want to have some kind of limousine, then rent a smaller one that only carries the wedding couple and maybe the best man and bridesmaid.
